MY SHOTS - Asahi Pentax K1000 SE
June 2008
The Rocks, Sydney (my very first photo taken with my very first SLR)
This was my very first photo taken with the K1000 and Pentax-M 50mm lens attached. I didn't know much about apertures, depth of field, shutter speed etc at the time. I just looked down the street, pointed, checked the light meter, focused and clicked. Most other shots on this date was done the same way. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Boats, Birkenhead Point
There were so many boats at this spot I had to take a pic. Pentax-M 50mm lens, checked the light meter needle was in the middle, focused and clicked the shutter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Yard, Near The Rocks, Sydney
This areas was so empty. It is normally buzzing with traffic and workmen during the week but was completely dead on the weekend, so I used the opportunity. Again, used the Pentax-M 50mm wide lens, focused and clicked. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Sydney City & Harbour Bridge from Observatory Hill, Sydney
I couldn't leave without taking the all important view of my wonderful city. You could easily think this shot was from years ago. Focused with the Pentax-M 50mm lens, checked light meter was spot on and clicked the shutter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
April 2011
Cafe Near the Armory - Sydney Olympic Park
I found a crane nearby and was experimenting with a framed shot. Took this pic through the bottom hole of the crane stand. I think the shot is a little too bright but was happy with the framing, Did this one hand held. Am looking to do more framed shots with the dslr's next time I'm out. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter attached. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Railway Track Bolts - Sydney Olympic Park
I was very happy with how this shot turned out. The sun was hitting it with more than enough light. You can really see all the detail in the rusted rail, even though it is only black and white film. Perhaps abit more shadow would have been better. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Railway Track Switch - Sydney Olympic Park
This switch lever caught my eye as we were walking past it. I liked the shadow that was being cast. Looking at the picture, particularly in black and white, you would never know when or what era it was taken. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Barge Post - Sydney Olympic Park
This was my favourite shot of the day. I was tryng to get a shot of a ferry as it went past and didn't realise I was standing next to this post. I loved the detail in the rotting wood. There were many other posts there but they all looked fine, this one for some strange reason looked like it had been neglected and hadn't been maintained or even re-painted. So I went for it. I uploaded it to www.photosig.com for reviews and was advised that it was a nice shot but still could have taken the shot a lot closer which is true, but overall I am still very happy with this shot. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Vespa - Sydney Olympic Park
I was waiting for Paul,my brother-in-law to finish taking a pic (he's another photo nut like me) when I spotted this Vespa sitting wedged between two cars. I really liked the look of the instrumentation and I really like this shot. I can see it hanging up in an Italian cafe just above the coffee maker or in a lounge bar. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Colums Outside ANZ Stadium - Sydney Olympic Park
These columns are located near the ANZ Stadium. Nothing special, just thought it looked a bit unusual so I took a quick pic. You can just make out the guy sitting down in the gap on the bottom left. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Ticket Machines - Olympic Park Station
There are so many of these ticket machines at the train station here as the stadium hosts alot of Rugby League (NRL) and Australian Football League (AFL) games. The station exit is located just outside the stadium for easy access to the various games held there. Was handy when we went to see the Olympics in 2000. I had never seen so many of these in a row, and they were so clean as well! So I went for the shot. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Exiting The Station, Swans Game - Olympic Park Station
Sydney Swans (AFL) supporters arriving for the big game. I like that ANZ Stadium is in the background. That is how close the venue is to the station. This shot would have probably looked better in colour as all the fans were mainly dressed in red and white, but all I had was black and white loaded into the ol' K1000 so I had to work with what I had. Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus with a polarizing filter. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
Ghost Tunnel - Olympic Park Station
I did this one using Pauls Velbon tripod and the cable release. I left the shutter open for 30 seconds. Probably could have left it open for less time so that the lights along the walls didn't flare up so bright. This tunnel was very dark and you could hardly see through it. This was the affect I wanted but like I said it could have been more darker. We had to wait for a couple of trains to go by before we could take this shot. One of the tripod legs was almost off the platform! Lens used was the Tokina 35-105mm close focus. Film used was Kodak Professional BW400CN - ISO 400.
