1985 Centurion Pursuit - Single Speed Project
BBB 113mm Sealed Cartridge Bottom Bracket
I ordered this bottom bracket from my local bike shop. Didn't measure anything, I just remember that 113mm seemed to be the standard length for old 80's road bikes when converting to single speed. This was by far the easiest bottom bracket to install. I know you're thinking, why not prep the frame and paint it first then install new parts?! Well I'm going to build this one first, see how it rides, then take it all off and then get the frame sorted! I also installed the Andel 48T crankset and my Wellgo magnesium pedals.
So here is the bike in it's latest form
So this is what the bike looks like in it's current guise. Fuji Feather ss wheels (16T), Brown Jersey saddle, Andel cranks, KMC chain, Wellgo magnesium pedals, Tektro RL720 brake levers, Tektro R365 long reach calipers, Profile Design bottle cage, bell, Knog lights, 3TTT Forma drop bars which came with the bike and of course my very special Nitto Technomic stem which is extra tall because I don't really wanna crouch over that much when riding. Wanna be comfortable. Everything has been done apart from some tyres, inner tubes and some brake cables. I'm just waiting on the tyres now., they are the only new parts going on.
Schwalbe Durano Plus 700x25 tyres
I scored these tyres with matching tubes brand new for $115 total off
Gumtree and they were posted to me too. I’ve read a lot of good reviews
about this rubber and will see how they perform on the single speed.
They are almost like slicks with a bit of tread on them so we’ll see.
This is the last of the components that I have put on. Apart from sorting
out the brake cabling, that’s all really.

Build Complete - 28/5/2016
So here's the bike all finished. I have basically built this up with spares & used parts. The tyres and tubes are new. I still have not taken it for a ride as it was raining today. I also weighed the whole thing using some luggage scales. 10.35kg. Not bad for a steel framed single speed. I'm still in two minds about painting it. Might leave it the way it is. Locking it up at the station won't be a problem. Everything is bolted on. The total weight includes lights, bottle cage and bell.
